Sarah is the Trauma Program Manager at Oaklawn Hospital, a level 3 trauma center. She wears many hats, including Injury Prevention Specialist and lead trauma registrar. She is involved with regional initiatives and is chair of the Legislative Advocacy & Outreach committee for the Michigan Trauma Coalition.
Sarah has been a nurse for 19 years with a career spanning from neuro-intensive care to emergency care. She has called Oaklawn her home for over 10 years. She spent over 6 years traveling the United States as a supervisory nurse for the National Disaster Medical System and FEMA where she provided medical care to numerous communities affected by disasters. Prior to nursing she was the co-owner of a real-estate firm and managed their advertising and development.
Sarah enjoys using her skills and current roles in healthcare leadership to support others through problem solving, teaching and interactive discussions.
Sarah, her husband and two children enjoy life together on the small organic farm they own near Vermontville where they specialize in poultry products, farm-fresh vegetables, flowers, herbs and natural botanicals. They homeschool their boys, ages 10 and 8 and are involved with a local home-school co-op. On the weekend the family enjoys spending time together and can often be found browsing through local antique shops or out at the beach rock hunting if they are not at home cooking and baking!

My values as a Nurse and Trauma program manager involve being accountable and committed to the work I do. I have always made it a priority to enjoy the work I do, and Follow the six core values as a nurse
I have been married to my husband Duane for the past 17 years. We have two Boys Ryder and Drew and one dog named Windham. I have a twin brother and come from a family of seven. I spend most of my free time watching my boys plays sports, no matter what the season is one of the boys are playing something (baseball, basketball, football, and wrestling) and I enjoy every minute of it! I am also a member of the athletic football boosters and spend many hours volunteering in my community. I truly enjoying cooking and spend lots of my time in my kitchen. In the summer time my family enjoys camping, we have a seasonal camper and look forward to spending our summer with our camping families!

Recently finished my BSN in 2021.
I pride myself as being a trustworthy person my staff or anyone can come to. My positive influence is my boss. She is one of the reasons I went into nursing and has supported me as I grown in my nursing career.
I live in the same community I work in. I love being outside, working out, cutting/collecting firewood, hunting, hiking and taking family vacations. I have been married for 22 years and have 3 teenage boys. Going to their sporting events takes up a significant amount of my non-work time.

I am a former ER nurse and joined our trauma program in 2021. I engage in our program’s performance improvement activities for our three trauma centers. I help to identify our PI indicators, reviewing charts for adherence to policy and procedure. I also work along side our TPM and abstractor, engaging in injury prevention activities through out the community.
I am a wife and mother to two. I enjoy spending time with my family and keeping active!

Abstracting Trauma cases is detective work to be sure. While everyone else is looking for bits and pieces, I am looking at the whole picture - every little detail - to determine specifics of injuries as well as every point of care given, in an effort to improve our care, our patients’ outcomes and to satisfy all aspects of ACS requirements, for the current patient and all those who come after. I love making a difference in our community!
I am a wife since 1986, a mother of three grown children, and now a dog, a cat and a bearded dragon. I love to read, craft, walk and kayak. From April through as long as it lasts, I can be found at our lake property every weekend and during the week when I can manage it.

Trauma and EMS Coordinator at Spectrum Health Pennock Hospital in Hastings, MI.
In the EMS world, I act as a liaison between the prehospital and hospital providers to better ensure a safe continuum of care. I work with the Medical Control Authority to ensure all the citizens of Barry County have high quality prehospital care.
In the Trauma world, I work to maintain Spectrum Health Pennock’s Level IV Trauma designation through auditing of the attention our trauma patients receive and through continuing education to maintain that high level of care.
Through my role in this position, and as an EMS provider and ED RN, I find that it is possible to have a positive impact and make a difference in people’s lives. I have enjoyed the partnerships and relationships that I have been fortunate to build. When we come together with a common goal, the strongest of foundations is built that will continue to make our communities stronger, healthier and safer.
I currently live in Freeport, MI. with my husband, Jim. I have 2 sons, Max, 24 and Mason, 21 and 1 grandchild.
Outside of work I enjoy camping, gardening and being with my family.
