Michigan – National Disaster Life Support
The Office of Public Health Preparedness (OPHP) in the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) was established in 2002 to coordinate development and implementation of public and medical health services encompassing an “all hazards” preparedness and response. In accomplishing their mission, the use of NDLS training materials was found to be an appropriate fit with the training goals of the OPHP. MDCH OPHP has adopted NDLS educational materials as fundamental information in the education of all Michigan professionals who respond to public health emergencies.
- Vision of the NDLS Programs: To create a nationwide network of health professionals who are ready, willing, and able to meet the health and safety needs of all persons and communities affected by a disaster or other public health emergency
- Mission of the NDLS Programs: To achieve and promote excellence in education, training, and research related to disaster medicine and public health preparedness for all health professionals based on sound educational principles, scientific evidence, and best clinical and public health practices
- Goal of the NDLS Education Consortium (NDLSEC): Support the National Disaster Life Support™ (NDLSTM) Program by providing multidisciplinary expertise for the regular review and critique of the NDLS Courses, including recommendations for content improvements and guidance for continued expansion and deployment
